If you’re one of the many Americans moving here each year, the question of education and schools is an important one. Your choice of schools will have an impact of every aspect of planning for your relocation to London.

Many Americans are keen to find a school that offers the American curriculum, but others are extremely happy to give their children the opportunity to experience international education.

ACS International Schools

This is a group of four schools in England and Qatar that was founded to serve the needs of the international and expat community in the UK. The advantage with the schools in the ACS portfolio is that they offer both the American curriculum as well as the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. ACS International Schools have over 2600 students spread over the four campuses. The schools are co-educational and can accept boarders or day students. The American curriculum offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses which is excellent preparation for college.

School fees range up to £20,000 which is about average for an independent school that caters to the expat community. Transport is added on to the school fees if you wish and there is a door-to-door transport system in London, which comes at a hefty price.

ACS Cobham is located just outside of town, in Surrey and is easily accessed by car or by train from Waterloo station. ACS Egham only offers the IB program for students. The IB is one of the highest standards in high school education in the world and students returning to American colleges after attaining their IB diploma are often credited with up to a year’s worth of study. It really is that good.

ACS Hillingdon is situated about 15 miles from central in an historic manor set on 11 acres of landscaped grounds. Offering both the IB and American curriculum, ACS Hillingdon is consistently listed in the top ranking schools in the UK.

Whichever school you choose for your children when you are planning your relocation, the most important part is that they get to interact with their peers. Education is about more than books and the opportunity to live and study in one of the most fascinating cities in the world is an education in itself.
