A remote home search lets you secure a London rental without being here. London Relocation finds suitable properties, views them on your behalf or via live virtual tours, negotiates the lease and manages referencing — including for applicants with no UK credit history — so you can arrive to a home that’s ready. Our remote search is guaranteed.

How a Remote Home Search Works

The process mirrors our accompanied search — except we do the viewing legwork while you stay where you are:

  1. Detailed needs assessment call. We map your budget, lifestyle, commute, schools, pets and timeline — and identify the right areas of London for you, even if you’ve never visited.
  2. Whole-market shortlist. Drawing on our network across every letting agent in London — including off-portal stock — we build a shortlist that meets your requirements.
  3. Virtual viewings. Your agent visits each property in person and walks you through it on a live video call — you direct the camera (“open that cupboard, check the water pressure, what’s the street noise like?”) — or views on your behalf with a detailed video and honest report. We flag what listing photos hide.
  4. Offer & negotiation. Your agent negotiates the rent and terms and secures your chosen property.
  5. Paperwork. Referencing, the tenancy agreement and deposit are handled remotely — built around what international applicants can actually document.
  6. Move in. You land with keys arranged and a home that’s ready — add our settling-in service for utilities, council tax and day-one practicalities.

What our clients say

“London Relocation was professional to work with in an overseas move. They connected me with multiple movers so I benefited from choices. They listened carefully to my top priorities in housing; the properties absolutely reflected the substance of our conversations. Finally, they did a great job of educating me on the process and gave me the tools to make good decisions.”

Renting a London Flat from Abroad: Timelines, Documents & Verification

Timeline. London properties list and let fast — good flats go within 24–48 hours — so the remote search starts in earnest about 4–6 weeks before your move-in date. Searching earlier than that wastes effort: the stock you see today won’t be available for a move three months out. From shortlist to signed tenancy typically takes 1–2 weeks once you’ve chosen.

Documents to prepare. Passport, visa or immigration status (your UKVI share code for the right-to-rent check — see our guide to right to rent checks), proof of income or an employment contract, and references. We tell you exactly what your target landlord’s referencing will ask before you apply, so nothing stalls at the last step. Wondering about visas and renting? Read do I need a visa to rent a property in London?

How we verify the property is as advertised. Renting sight-unseen from another country is where scams and disappointments happen — which is exactly what a remote search removes. We only work through verified landlords and letting agents, your agent physically inspects the property, and the live virtual tour is unedited: you see the real light, hear the real street, and get our honest view on the block, the street and the landlord. No surprises on arrival is the whole point of the service.

No UK Credit History? Here’s How International Applicants Pass Referencing

Your foreign credit score doesn’t transfer to the UK — and standard referencing often rejects newcomers for that reason alone. We prepare international applicants so this doesn’t happen: depending on your situation, that means a UK-based guarantor, additional references and employer documentation, or rent-in-advance arrangements where the current rules permit them. We package your application the way referencing agencies want to see it, before it’s submitted. Moving without a UK contract in hand? See our practical guide to renting in London without a job, and note for US movers: our guide to moving to London from the US covers the full picture.

Paying from Abroad & Deposit Protection

You’ll typically pay a holding deposit, then the security deposit and first month’s rent before move-in. International bank transfers are standard (specialist transfer services are usually cheaper than bank wires — watch transaction fees and exchange rates), and some agents accept card payments. Two protections to know: your security deposit is capped at five weeks’ rent for most tenancies and must be protected in a government-approved deposit scheme — we confirm the scheme registration before you pay anything. Since 1 May 2026, England’s renting rules also limit how much rent can be demanded in advance, which protects overseas applicants from “pay a year upfront” demands. The Guarantee: What It Covers

Your remote search is guaranteed — we don’t stop until you’re secured in a home that matches your brief.

Remote Home Search: FAQ

Can I rent in London without visiting first?

Yes. With a remote home search we view on your behalf and via live virtual tours, then secure and reference the property so you can arrive to a ready home.

Can I trust the property is as advertised when renting remotely?

Yes, especially when using reputable agencies and services like London Relocation®, which verify listings and provide honest, detailed virtual tours.

What happens if there are issues with the property when I arrive?

Ensure you have a clear agreement on how issues are handled. We guide you on securing terms that protect tenants upon arrival — and because we verified and viewed the property ourselves, arrival surprises are rare.

Is a remote rental more expensive?

Not necessarily. Costs are comparable to traditional renting, though you may save on travel and accommodation expenses related to property searching.

How do I make payments from abroad?

International bank transfers are common, and some services also allow credit card payments. Be mindful of potential transaction fees — and never pay a deposit before the tenancy and deposit-scheme details are confirmed.

Can I rent without a UK credit history?

Yes — we prepare international applicants and arrange guarantor, additional references or rent-in-advance options so you pass referencing.
