Introduction to Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf stands as a testament to modern urban development, transforming from historic docklands to a bustling center of finance and luxurious living. Known for its striking skyline, it has evolved over the last decade into a sought-after residential area. Benefiting from superb connectivity through DLR, Jubilee Line, and the recent addition of the Elizabeth Line, Canary Wharf offers a blend of fast-paced business and leisurely living, making it a prime location for professionals and families alike.

Historical Footnote

Named after the fruit trade with the Canary Islands, Canary Wharf’s No 32 berth at West Wood Quay marks a significant point in its maritime heritage. Once dominated by the towering presence of One Canada Square, the area has a rich history of connectivity and transformation, from the bustling activity of the docks to the serene public transport oasis it is today.

Architectural and Living Spaces

The area’s architectural landscape has seamlessly transitioned from industrial to innovative, featuring a mix of high-rise apartments, historic warehouse conversions, and a diverse range of housing options. This blend of old and new creates a dynamic living environment, from the luxurious penthouses offering panoramic views of London to the community-focused Span housing and charming Victorian terraces.

Lifestyle and Leisure

Culinary Delights

From the esteemed British cuisine and extensive whiskey collection at Boisdale of Canary Wharf to the contemporary Japanese dishes at Roka, Canary Wharf is a culinary hotspot. The area is also home to Hawksmoor Wood Wharf, set in a unique eco-friendly setting, and a host of new eateries in Wood Wharf, including the beloved Emilia’s Pasta.

Vibrant Nightlife

Enjoy cocktails amidst the lush greenery of Pergola on the Wharf or engage in some friendly competition at Electric Shuffle. The historic Gun on Coldharbour remains a local favorite, offering upscale pub fare and specialty oysters.

Cultural Hotspots

The London Museum Docklands invites exploration into the area’s rich history, complemented by the vast collection of outdoor public art and partnerships with the Royal Opera House and the Royal Shakespeare Company, enriching the cultural fabric of Canary Wharf.

Shopping and Services

With five malls, including high-end boutiques and essential services, Canary Wharf caters to every need. The area boasts a Waitrose for grocery needs, the historic Billingsgate Fish Market for seafood enthusiasts, and a plethora of fitness options, including the lavish Third Space health club.

Green Retreats

The estate offers over 16.5 acres of beautifully landscaped parks and gardens, including the enchanting Crossrail Place Roof Garden and the expansive Mudchute Park and Farm, providing a slice of countryside amidst the urban landscape.

Future Developments

Canary Wharf continues to grow with the Wood Wharf expansion, introducing new homes, office spaces, and community amenities, alongside the landmark South Quay Plaza, enhancing the area’s green spaces and living quality.

Connectivity

Tube

Canary Wharf is well-served by the Jubilee Line, which efficiently connects residents to the heart of London. The recent introduction of the Elizabeth Line has further enhanced the area’s connectivity, offering rapid transit options to key destinations like Liverpool Street in minutes, Paddington, and direct routes to London Heathrow.

DLR

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is integral to Canary Wharf’s accessibility, providing frequent services across the Isle of Dogs, to the City, and beyond. Stations such as Canary Wharf, Heron Quays, and Crossharbour facilitate easy commutes to various parts of London.

River

The Thames Clippers offer a scenic and relaxed commute from Canary Wharf Pier, with services extending to Greenwich, London Bridge, and several other key locations along the Thames, providing an alternative and enjoyable mode of transport.

Bus

An extensive bus network ensures Canary Wharf is well connected to the broader London area. Routes such as the D3, D7, and D8 bring the East London neighborhoods within easy reach, while the 277 service connects to Highbury and Islington, and the N550 night bus offers late-night links to Trafalgar Square.

Educational Foundations

The educational landscape includes notable institutions like Bygrove and Manorfield Primary Schools, Canary Wharf College, and the specialized Stephen Hawking School, offering quality education for all ages.

London Relocation was wonderful during the stressful time of navigating the London housing market, especially, Corrina and Sascha. They listened to all concerns and answered every question no matter how big or small and helped to find a flat that was perfect. Not only did they help through the renting process but they both went out of their way to help sort out bills, council tax, etc. Without them moving to London would have felt impossible.

LR was incredibly helpful in finding me a flat within tight constraints and I was able to move in 2 weeks after arriving to London which I didn’t think would be possible. The entire team: Corrina, Mel and Sascha have been so wonderful to work with and looked after me from the very start and made this the least stressful move that I’ve ever experienced. Highly recommend their service!

I can not say enough about my GREAT experience with London relocation. They made the move from NY to London super smooth. The thorough intake call, the very thoughtful and substantive viewing day, and overall securing of a flat process could not have been smoother! So lucky to have had Corrina and Sascha helping me. Mel, the agent on the viewing day was AMAZING. She was fun, energetic, and made the whole experience feel good. She negotiated expertly on my behalf. Can’t say enough good things all around. If you are relocating to London, USE THEM. Don’t attempt to do it alone. Thank you all so much!

Corrina and Sascha were incredibly helpful finding my family and I our new home in London. My husband received a promotion that lead us to relocating from Atlanta to London in a little over two months, which with a job, a home, and a dog to organise prior to moving, finding a new place to live was a huge stressor. After my first consult call with Corrina I felt completely at ease that they'd be able to find us the perfect place to live, even with the added "pets allowed" requirement. We opted for a fully remote search, and it was nerve-racking not being able to see the properties in person, however Sascha and Corrina answered every little question we had throughout the process. We've been in our new flat for a few weeks now and couldn't be happier. It checks all the boxes, and our dog loves it too!

Even though the services were out of my budget, the customer service was beyond great. After submitting the form, I received a prompt call within a few minutes. The agent I spoke to, Shanti, was so incredibly helpful and gave me a lot of advice to navigate the housing market as an international student.

I moved to London to start a new university job with zero time for flat hunting. I really appreciated how LR took that and related tasks on. The London rental market is nuts and it helped to have these knowledgeable & responsive champions in my corner. Toasting them from my new balcony!

Wrapping up our time with the London Relocation team and it could not have been a better experience. From the get go, Sascha was super responsive to our initial inquiry, detailed, thorough and kind on our prelim and follow up calls, and on the viewing day Mel was amazing as well and such a great advocate for us when visiting the different units. We managed to secure the flat of our dreams and thanks to the help of the entire team who managed the go between with the leasing agent, the multi step process to rent was super smooth and clear. Never having rented in the UK before, my husband and I are certain that if left to our own devices, this would have been a challenging and painful experience and we're both so glad to have had the guidance from the entire London Relocation team the entire way through. We cannot recommend them enough to anyone and everyone, especially if you're new to renting in the UK.
