One of the fastest ways to fit-in in is to learn as much as you can before you leave home. Be prepared to encounter a massive diversity when you arrive. To give you a small example of this, there are over 300 languages spoken in London alone. This amount of cultural diversity does not mean that all of the people are foreigners. There are millions of people from India and the Caribbean who have been living in England for generations and who have managed to retain their cultural roots while embracing the culture of the English. It is this odd take on the diversity that makes it difficult to fit in and to understand at first. The Indian community in particular are passionately English while being rooted into their own culture.
The great British reserve is just something you will have to get used to. If you are living here, this may have more to do with the fact that it is a busy city and its inhabitants are lead busy lives, than with the fact that British people are more reserved than other nations. One thing you should learn is not to divulge too many personal details about yourself in the first meeting. British people do not do this until they know you really well and even then, they are accustomed to keeping their personal problems to themselves. That said, locals are exceptionally helpful and friendly towards tourists and visitors. Get involved in your community as fast as possible and you will soon be melting the hearts of the British stoics!

It is a way of minimizing problems and having a good laugh at everything that could possibly go wrong or has gone wrong. Attempt to learn as many English words as you can before you leave for London and you’ll have no problem when you get there.
